| ENUM Development in Taiwan |
| By a joint effort from the government , research institutes, telcos and ISPs, Taiwan is setting up a test-bed for our initial ENUM trial project. The annual (2003) budget is approximately 700,000 USD. Numerous seminars, workshops and study groups have been taken places over the last 2 years. The trial project is co-ordinated and supported by the SIP/ENUM Forum Taiwan , which the participants are from the above described entities. The execution entity is the Computer and Communications Research Labs (CCL) , along with Taiwan Network Information Center (TWNIC) serving the tier-1 registry. The Directorate-General of Telecommunications will provide a block of trial numbers. The trial will be primarily established on the existing National Broadband Experimental Network . Participated Telcos and ISPs will offer their facilities and unused numbers as well. The goal is, through the trial operation, to acquire experience and data for government and industry references. It is important not only for participated operators, but also important to hardware designers and manufacturers in Taiwan. The SIP/ENUM Forum Taiwan will then persuade the government making the development of ENUM a national priority. It is believed that creating the win-win business model and developing a sound and secure operation environment will eventually benefit the service providers and the consumers. Please note that in the trial project, e164.tw is temporarily used (instead of 6.8.8.e164.arpa). (Last Update: 31-MAR-2003) |
